Be heard and accepted

I'm a friendly, warm and compassionate counsellor who will listen and support you through challenging life events in a safe, respectful and confidential manner.

I feel humbled and privileged to be able to guide you when you may be feeling lost, stuck, overwhelmed, hopeless and,or distanced from those around you.

My approach is rooted in empathy and I will be fully accepting of you.

You will set the pace as we explore your thoughts, feelings and the issues to help reveal a path to change or to find acceptance of a situation

Psychodynamic counselling

I provide counselling from the basis of a psychodynamic model.  This enables clients to freely express present day difficulties but acknowledges that our thoughts and emotions, as adults, may be linked to our past experiences. Our upbringing and the people we meet in our life have a way of shaping who we 'think' we are.

Whether it be a negative label a parent gave us - ‘sensitive, stupid, not good at..’  or have suffered childhood neglect or abuse.  We may apply defence mechanisms to protect ourselves, like denial or repressing our feelings. Then life throws us a curve ball (e.g. loss, unemployment, divorce, a traumatic event) and this can tip the balance of our mental health.

During our sessions we will explore your childhood, relationships, family dynamics and belief systems to help develop an understanding and insight into presenting issues and patterns of behaviour.

The pace and depth of exploration will be set by you.
